An exciting new model will soon be joining the Kia family, and the auto industry is already buzzing. At the recent North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Kia Motors America unveiled the all-new 2018 Kia Stinger. This new, five-passenger fastback sports sedan is being touted as Kia’s highest-performing production vehicle ever. The car will hit dealerships later in 2017.

The Stinger lineup will feature luxurious accommodations, as well as multiple drivetrain configurations and engine options. The car is the result of years spent fine-tuning on the Nurburgring circuit. It represents the fulfillment of Kia’s promise to bring a GT concept production model to the market. The GT concept was first introduced in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.

Both of the planned engines are still being developed, but the 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder Theta II engine is expected to come standard. It will generate approximately 255 hp and 260 lb-ft of maximum torque. An available 3.3L twin-turbo V6 Lambda II engine is expected to deliver 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of max torque. When equipped with the twin turbo V6, Kia’s target top speed for the Stinger is 167 mph. The car will also include a second-generation 8-speed rear-drive automatic transmission.

Featuring a muscular exterior design, the Stinger will be distinguished by a long hood and a short front overhang. An extended wheelbase leaves mores space for a roomy cabin with a long rear overhang.

Aerodynamic efficiency is bolstered by functional exterior components: front air curtains, a smooth underbody, wheel arch gills, and an integrated rear diffuser. Four oval exhaust pipes will be housed in the rear valance, and the signature Kia “Tiger Nose” grille will be situated between advanced LED headlamps.

Among the Stinger’s many state-of-the-art features, drivers will find plenty of technologically advanced amenities. Kia’s new Driver Attention Alert system is one such example, which helps fight drowsy and distracted driving.

The Stinger will also feature:

  • Forward Collision Assistance with integrated Autonomous Emergency Braking and pedestrian detection
  • Advanced Smart Cruise Control
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Height-adjustable Head-Up Display
  • Wireless smartphone charging pad
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • And much more!
